Classification:

School: Prairie View A&M University
Majors: Radio/Television and History
As a freshman and sophomore, Alzo Slade performed stand up comedy for
extra money and he served as the Prairie View A&M University mascot
for a year. It wasn’t until later in his college career that he decided
to use his unabashed and captivating personality in the arena of leadership.
"I began to suppress my comical nature and focus on the intellectual and
artistic side of Alzo Slade," he said. "I mixed the two and I think that’s
where I gained most of my respect because people saw that change and my
growth."
After gaining his focus, Slade served Prairie View A&M University
in a variety of capacities. As SGA president his efforts were instrumental
in the lifting of the suspension placed on the school’s athletic program
by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as a result of their controversy
with Southern University. He also served as Mr. Prairie View in which his
focus was aimed toward the social area. He used that platform to educate
his fellow students on African history. He also speaks on a number of topics
to students in high schools as well as middle schools.
Slade is now working as an editor for Fox 26 in Houston. He has also
expressed that a pursuit of a master’s degree in history is very likely.
Ultimately he would like to combine the two to become a writer/director
of documentaries and film.
