Cornelius Minor says that he cringes when he’s called a leader, but
his record says otherwise. What else do you call someone who serves as
the Florida A&M Student Body President, stays active in local government,
and volunteers in a program developed to help elementary school students
to develop socially and academically. However, it is his ideology and his
method of getting things done that make him avoid viewing himself in the
light of a traditional leader. "I don’t think that leaders should be overseers
or the man out in front. I think that leaders are responsible for empowering
their people and motivating them," Minor said. "If each individual on campus
is successful and I’m never seen then I’m still a great leader."
Minor has demonstrated strong leadership skills on and off campus. As
Florida A&M’s Student Body Vice President last year, Minor had many
responsibilities including the allocation of a $3.2 million budget to approximately
60 student organizations and his interest in seeing that his university
receives the proper funding, which has caused him to be a consistent state
lobbyist. "It’s incumbent upon us to be as politically active as we can
to make sure we get the fair end of the stick," he said.
After obtaining his bachelor’s degree, Minor plans to enroll in a dual
degree program seeking a degree in ethical law and a Ph.D. in sociology,
with a concentration in comparative religion or social work.
