Lott Carey Joins New Jersey Church in Recovery Efforts for Gulf Coast Region

$1 Million Pledge to be Fulfilled Today at 110th Annual Session

New Orleans, LA (BlackNews.com) - Last fall Fountain Baptist Church in Summit, New Jersey pledged the second-largest church gift in any disaster effort to the Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention. Lott Carey, a premier African-American global missions and relief agency, will receive the final installment of the donated $1 million at its 110th Annual Convention in New Orleans.

The 2,000-member Fountain Baptist Church raised the $1 million in tithing donations in just 18 months. The church has already fulfilled about 80 percent of the pledged $1 million to support Lott Carey relief efforts after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated areas in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Lott Carey President Keith A. Troy will address delegates on Thursday, August 16, 2007, and a formal check presentation will take place at that time.

"Lott Carey is blessed to have such a wonderful partnership with Fountain Baptist Church," said Dr. David Emanuel Goatley, secretary treasurer of Lott Carey. "It is such an unusual testament of the Christian mission for a church to donate so much to one cause and we are honored they have chosen to help the Gulf region rise again." Along with the contribution from The Fountain Project, Lott Carey has generated $2.5 million to help families and churches in the Gulf Coast region with recovery following Hurricane Katrina.

Lott Carey is making a civic and economic impact on the area by bringing its convention to New Orleans to support the local economy. "More than 2,000 delegates of our organization from all over the world are here," states Goatley. "Delegates are participating in a missions' blitz that has sent 300 people to work throughout the city this week. We plan to leave New Orleans in much better condition than we found it."
