Top Employers For The Class of 2006
Introduction

Each year, THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Magazine conducts a survey of major employers to determine the most active recruiters of college graduates. This survey results in our Top 100 Employers List, which is published in this, our Second Semester Super Issue. Because Hurricane Katrina caused the evacuation of our staff, we were late in conducting the survey, which we simplified this year. Because we did not have the staff to do the follow-up, we did not get our targeted 100 responses. So, this year we are publishing the results as The Top Employers for the Class of 2006.

We asked employers the number of projected hires from on-campus recruiting and the number of campuses they are recruiting on, as measures of their on-campus recruiting activity. Because these employers took the initiative to respond without follow-up, we think they definitely are committed to achieving their on-campus hiring goals, particularly their goal of recruiting diverse candidates.

We also asked these employers to list the majors they are seeking. We suggest that you contact all employers who recruit in your major. While Dr. Philip Gardner, in his college labor market survey published in this issue, said employers plan to increase hiring between 6 and 14 percent, this is still a very competitive environment for the Class of '06. You should visit your career services office to determine if these employers are recruiting on your campus and meet with a career counselor to plan a strategy for getting an interview with the employers of your choice. Dr. Gardner's article tells you about the job market for this year's graduates, the industries that are hiring, the job outlook in geographical sectors of the country, and the majors that are in demand and the salary range.

We wish you success in your job search, and we want you to tell us of your successful job search strategies, which we will publish on www.blackcollegian.com.
