The Top 100 Employers: Introduction
Annually, THE BLACK COLLEGIAN surveys
major employers in industry, government and business to determine where
the jobs are and what areas they are in. Our survey provides current information
that allows new graduates of the Class of 1998 to focus their searches
to those employers actively hiring. Students entering the job market may
use THE BLACK COLLEGIAN's annual surveys to spot trends in employment that
may affect their job search.
The overall news for the graduating
class of 1998 is good. The U.S. economy has grown enough to accommodate
approximately 27.5 percent more new college graduates. Therefore, new college
graduates should not be surprised by the number of job offers they receive
this year. Graduates with degrees in computer related studies may each
receive as many as ten offers from companies whose expansions require their
skills. The demands for computer related skills are greater than the supply
of graduates in computer related studies. For them, it's a seller's market.
The increase in the number of job opportunities is unrelated to geographical
regions. Starting salaries for new graduates are expected to increase by
3.5 to 4 percent.
