THE
UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT DALLAS SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT
The School of Management at The University of Texas at
Dallas has set its sights on becoming one of the nation's leading public
business schools.
The largest and fastest-growing of UTD's schools, the
School of Management has seen enrollments double over the last nine years. In
all, the school registered 4,484 students in fall 2004, nearly a third of UTD's total student population. Doctoral enrollments in the school have nearly
doubled in seven years.
As it is experiencing rapid growth, the school is also
beginning to gain national prominence. During
the last year, U.S. News and World Report
ranked UTD's Cohort MBA program among the top 62 fulltime MBA programs in the
nation and among the top 35 at public colleges and universities.
Additionally, Financial Times
ranked the UTD Executive MBA program 61st in the world and 34th
in the U.S.
Many of the school's full time faculty of 90, which
includes 23 full professors, are internationally renowned in their fields.
The school's operations management and information systems faculty
garnered national attention in a study published in the January 2003 issue of
the prestigious journal, ORMS Today, which places them sixth worldwide in research
productivity from 1996 to 2002.
School administrators see such successes as proof that
efforts are working to build a research-focused, high quality scholastic
environment that offers students courses and skill sets in line with the hiring
needs of local employers. In fact,
the school often partners with the business community to determine the direction
of faculty research, an increasingly important component of the school, and to
decide on relevant courses.
The school's academic disciplines include Accounting and
Information Management, Finance, Marketing, Information Systems and Operations
Management, and Organizations, Strategy, and International Management.
The School's Executive Education and Professional Development programs
pay particular attention to the continuing education needs of practicing
executives and others already in the work force.
In addition to building a top quality faculty, The School
of Management has responded quickly on several fronts not just to keep pace
with, but to improve in advance of, its rapid growth. As a mark of recognition for the quality of its programs, the
school has earned accreditation from AACSB International - The Association to
Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The school also has completed of a
204,000-square-foot building, a state-of-the-art facility to give students and
faculty a new home under one roof on campus.
Classes are designed to equip students with timeless
business skills and proficiencies while emphasizing the mastery of managerial
concepts, tools and innovations that are born of the newest technologies. The
school has been a leader in Internet-based distance learning and in offering
flexible alternatives for students to pursue their educational objectives.
Certificate, online, part-time, short-course and weekend options are built into
many programs.
The school recently has added finance and information
systems as undergraduate majors. At the master's degree level, it has
instituted new concentrations in e-commerce, information technology consulting
and telecom management. In alliance with The University of Texas Southwestern
