UNIVERSITY
OF CINCINNATI
The
Albert C. Yates Fellows and Scholars Program
Fellowships and Scholarships for Minority Students
Program:
The Albert C. Yates Fellows and Scholars Program provides graduate fellowships
and scholarships to qualified United States citizens who are members of
underrepresented groups. African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans,
Native Americans, and male students in nursing programs are examples of
underrepresented groups whose members are eligible to apply. During the past
30 years, over 1,500 students have earned their masters or doctoral degrees in
disciplines throughout the University of Cincinnati with the support of this program.
Awards:
The fellowships and scholarships are awarded by the Vice President for Research
and University Dean for Advanced Studies, upon recommendation of the student's
chosen department or program of study. Recommendations are submitted by the
department subsequent to the student's application to and acceptance into the
program and are based upon the student's demonstrated potential for academic success.
Albert C. Yates Graduate Fellowships: The fellowships provide a
full-tuition scholarship and a stipend for the academic year plus a waiver of general
fees. No services are required of fellowship recipients in return for their award.
The only requirement is that the fellow remains in good academic standing. The Yates
Fellowship covers one academic year and is continued in all subsequent years of the
recipient's tenure in his or her degree program as a departmental award of full
tuition and stipend, assuming acceptable academic progress is maintained.
Albert C. Yates Graduate Scholarships: The scholarships provide a
full-tuition scholarship plus a waiver of general fees. No services are required of
scholarship recipients in return for their award. The only requirement is that the
scholar remains in good academic standing. The Yates Scholarship covers one academic
year and is continued in all subsequent years of the recipient's tenure in his or
her degree program as a departmental award of full tuition, assuming acceptable
academic progress is maintained.
Applications:
The final deadline for departmental recommendations to the Vice President is the
first Friday in April for awards effective in the autumn quarter of that year.
Consequently, student applications must be received and approved prior to that date.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply as early as possible. Yates fellowships
and scholarships are only implemented in September at the beginning of an
academic year (autumn quarter).
