Overview Of Schools
Fielding Graduate University
offers graduate
degrees within three schools: Psychology, Human and Organization Development and
Educational Leadership and Change.
School
of Psychology
Fielding Graduate University's Ph.D. Program in Clinical Psychology is the only distributed learning doctoral program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). It also meets the predoctoral requirements for license eligibility in most states. Socialization into the field of clinical psychology is provided by intensive faculty-student face-to-face contact at local cluster meetings, national sessions, clinical and research sessions. Structured learning activities that take place over the Fielding's Education Link & Information Exchange network (FELIX) deepen interactions between faculty and students.
In our
two-year Postdoctoral Neuropsychology Certificate Program, students and faculty
meet in cluster groups in major metropolitan areas. The program is designed to
meet the needs of professional psychologists who seek an alternative to
residency programs away from their work. This post-graduate program allows
students to continue working in their current positions while at the same time
gaining both the theoretical grounding and applied clinical experience needed to
develop proficiency in neuropsychological assessment and intervention.
The Respecialization
in Clinical Psychology Certificate program is for psychologists with
Ph.D.s in non-clinical specializations who desire certificates indicating they
have completed the training needed to qualify as clinical psychologists. By
adding clinical assessment and intervention skills to their existing knowledge
and experience, they can enhance the quality of their psychological services and
make significant contributions to research, teaching and program development
within the environments in which they participate. Requirements include course
work, psychological assessment labs, a practicum and an internship. Fielding is
accredited by the APA to provide this training in a distance-learning format.

The interdisciplinary programs in the School of Human and Organization
Development (HOD) support adult students in the study of human
development and organizational processes. A networked learning environment
creates a community of geographically dispersed and culturally diverse
scholar-practitioners. Students interact with faculty and student colleagues,
conduct research and participate in a vital electronic learning community. Human
and Organization Development (HOD) supports collaborative learning within the
context of students' personal and professional lives. We believe that education
is a lifelong process that engages the student as a whole person. HOD students
are mid-career learners who are corporate managers, consultants, higher
education faculty and administrators, public policy makers, organizational
change experts and human resource, healthcare and information system
professionals.

Programs in the School
of Educational Leadership and Change offer an interdisciplinary,
collaborative, customized and networked learning environment dedicated to
fostering leadership for change in our public schools, creating opportunities
for professional and personal growth for educators, and promoting systemic
change in educational organizations. The programs enable teachers, community
advocates and educational administrators to continue to work in their respective
communities while simultaneously developing new leadership skills through
postgraduate education. Courses help students strategically confront the complex
realities and challenges facing schools and other organizations, always
examining these educational challenges from a broad-based systems perspective.
The Fielding Learning Model
The
learning model utilized by Fielding is based on the principles of adult learning
and is designed to accommodate the needs, requirements and learning styles of
midlife and mid-career professionals. The Fielding learning model combines
theory with practice in a program that emphasizes academic understanding,
research and writing skills and applied activities.
Students
in each degree program learn through a mix of independent study and structured
course work, learn peer to peer or collaboratively with faculty, utilize a range
of learning media, including face-to-face and online in courses, seminars and
electronic mail. Fielding offers flexibility for students to create their own
learning roadmap and outstanding faculty who act as mentors throughout each
student's learning process.
The
elements of Fielding's learning model include a student learning plan,
contract-based learning, competency-based assessment, student to student peer
feedback, project and portfolio reviews, and final thesis or dissertation.
