Letter to the Editor
Natasha Smith-Washington - Southern University

Dear Editor:

Your articles on Black military personnel really inspire me. I'm a sophomore at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA., and a member of the ROTC program as a Marine Option. The article about LT. Tamia N. Gordon made me proud. As a Marine Option female at Southern University, there's a lot of pressure on physical fitness, firmness and intelligence. There're only two of  us in the program and the tension  is enormous.

It was truly a heartfelt moment to see LT. Gordon receive the recognition that she, and so many others deserve, and so seldom get. Yes, Lt Gordon is sincerely a role model and motivator for me, and many others, I'm sure. I commend THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Magazine.
