Real Men Cook
by
Karega Kofi Moyo`
Sixteen years ago on Father's Day in Chicago,
Kofi and Yvette Moyo, gathered together a group of men for a family food
celebration. The goal was to raise money for local charitable organizations and
shine a light on the "real men" -- the unsung heroes of the black community -
who care for their families throughout the year. Real Men Cook for Charity® is
now the largest National Father's Day event in the United States, with more than
30,000 husbands, uncles, brothers and teachers participating. The event reaches
a media audience of 136 million and has raised nearly a million dollars for a
variety of charities, such as the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the YMCA.
Kofi
now brings his unbridled enthusiasm to the page with REAL MEN COOK: Rrtes,
Rituals and Recipes for Living, a delicious, heartwarming collection of
soul-stirring stories and more than one hundred mouthwatering,
finger-lickin'-good recipes (some handed down over the generations). Through
stories of family traditions, picnics, block parties, and courtship rituals, in
REAL MEN COOK, more than one hundred Real Men open their hearts, and share
recipes, poetry, photos from family archives, and the memories that inspire them
to live as Real Men.
