Million Woman March Reunion Committee Begins Organizing
On Monday October 25, 1999, the second anniversary of the historic Million Woman March, MWM Founder Phile' Chionesu was scheduled to announce the official "Million Woman March Reunion" scheduled to take place in the year 2000.

Three cities are presently being considered for the Year 2000 event, therefore the MWM Reunion location will not be announced until further evaluations and negotiations have rendered a decision.

This (the MWM Reunion 2000) is the only major event that has come directly from the original source (the March that took place in Philadelphia in October 1997) and is as such the only official follow-up or major "next step" activity from the national headquarters (Philadelphia).

MWM Reunion Organizing Committee's first phase strategy will go into affect on October 25, 1999 as part of the anniversary observance. Such activities will include the distribution of the organization's "Phase One" questionnaire, specific solution oriented projects and community outreach programs, the launching of the MWM general membership drive, a call for the submission of drawings for a new official MWM 2000 logo, and the submission of designs for other products that will be produced by MWM.

Only the organizing committees registered directly through the national headquarters will have access to specific and key segments of the MWM movement. It has been determined that such precautions are necessary in order to keep the integrity, philosophy and true spirit of the MWM concept and mission both progressive and uncomprimised.

The MWM Reunion event will formally initiate the organization's "5-year plan" which includes a broad spectrum of programs and opportunities designed specifically for women of African descent in addition to numerous community services and upliftment projects that will stimulate and stabilize a more realistic "quality of life" for Black people worldwide.

The Million Woman March Reunion will provided the MWM "action plan" to address the platform issues and mission statement outlined in 1997, as well as other issues that have been brought forward since then.

A comprehensive tracking system will be employed for the projected and actual accomplishments made by MWM supporters to assure that the hard work, dedication and commitments of thousands upon thousands of Black women throughout the United States (and the world) are not played down, taken for granted or dismissed.

Phile' Kaa Chionesu (lovingly called Dr. Phile' and Dr. Chi, an honorary title bestowed upon her by MWM delegations in the New York State area for her vision and strategy of the Million Woman March stated:

"We (Black women) are not only blessed with a unique power, we are now blessed with an even greater ability to use it. We are more in tune to not only what needs to be done but how. We are more prepared to get the necesarry work done. Like the forces of nature we will move forward gracefully while demonstrating our real and true power unconditionally."

Brenda Joyce Burgess of Pontiac Michigan, national co-chair and international liaison to the movement concurs:

"This is a very important step for those sisters who believed in their hearts the purpose and plan of this movement. Time was taken to ensure that all necessary steps occurred before we moved to the next level. Careful scrutiny was necessary to provide insight into the formation of the reunion. The coming year should bring much energy to those waited in anticipation of our next step."

The city selected to be graced with the MWM Year 2000 reunion will be selected based on several facts. Needless to say, those factors will most certainly include, by that city, and appreciation of who and what we represent, which of course includes those who help make our mission work.

Furthermore, there must be a realistic indication that the revenue generated from such a huge event is not taken lightly or for granted.

One of the many very important elements that the Million Woman March exemplified was the "remember from whence one comes." We not only remember but are committed to unifying with those have embraced this principle too.
